I just finished reading Lily's Pad by Kathleen Rowland. The setting is a beautiful town on the west coast called Moonlight Cove. It's a delightful story about a once-perfect relationship that has gone sour. The main character, Creed Taylor, is a beloved teacher and good looking man who's also a former military officer. In the war, his knee was permanently damaged and now he walks with the help of a cane. His fiancé and lifelong love, Scarlett, has become a reality TV star in a show titled Bikini Babes. Unfortunately, she's succumbed to the lure of fame and fortune all too easily. Now, their once hot relationship is nothing more than a sham. Creed has to find a way to end things in a way that is dignified. Find out how both of them fare in this well written tale of a love that was lost and found. You won't regret it!Product details

Lily's Pad, by Kathleen Rowland, is a contemporary romance novella. A quick read for those who enjoy both suspense and romantic triangles, it focuses on the intertwined lives of three characters Creed Taylor, a retired army vet turned schoolteacher, Scarlett, his fame-seeking reality TV star fiancé, and Lily, the owner of the cafe (Lily's Pad) which Creed frequents. With crisp, fast-paced prose the story unfolds in Moonlight Cove, an area which is quickly in danger of being changed into a high-rise city where commercialism takes over its peaceful beach town vibe. Add to this the tension of Creed, Scarlett & Lily's romantic triangle - and readers have a recipe for a quick, action-packed read. Lily's Pad will no doubt be enjoyed by fans of contemporary fiction, romance and suspense alike.
Wounded war hero- turned –schoolteacher Creed Taylor finds himself caught between two women. And who doesn’t love a triangle (as long as it doesn’t involve them, of course).
Creed’s long term girlfriend, snooty Scarlett, is a reality TV star who he is expected (by her, the producers of the show and both their sets of parents) to propose to- on air- quite soon. But he’s not sure he’s feelin’ it anymore. Meanwhile, another woman catches his eye. Lily is the down-to earth owner of the seaside café he frequents.
This short read was engaging and fast-paced.
A couple of quibbles Now and then, I’d find myself re-reading and backtracking because I couldn’t figure out who someone was speaking to or exactly what was going on. And the ending, well, without giving too much away, I’ll just say I found the speed of events rather alarming.
But overall, it’s good. Definitely worth 99 cents!
Kathleen Rowland knows what women like. Her hero, Creed Taylor, is an army veteran - he is brave and keeps himself in shape. He has been wounded, which softens him - he has his vulnerabilities. Now he teaches second grade, which tells us he is patient and fun-loving, enjoying the simple pleasures in life. He owns a dog - so he’s responsible, and the dog has been invalided out of the army too - add compassion to Creed’s list of positive attributes. Even his name speaks volumes - he is a man of principle, a strong moral compass.
The perfect package, or what? He had me at ‘Hello’.
Creed is engaged to Scarlett, the girl-next-door turned beauty queen and star of a reality TV show, but all is not well in their relationship. The idyllic coastal resort of Moonlight Cove has been taken over by the razzmatazz of show-business and the vultures are circling, threatening to spoil all the good things about this close-knit and special town. It looks like Scarlett is blinded by the lime-light, and Creed finds himself drawn to Lily, owner of the local beach-bar.
This story had everything a romance-reader wants. My only complaint is the break-neck speed at which some relationships dissolve and others flower. The narrative raced along - no time to savour those lingering glances, the accidental brushing of hands, and the steamy sun-set clinch was over much too quickly. It was all so finely pared down I wondered if it have been edited to fit a certain word count or column-length.
Apart from that - sigh! The search for my Creed Taylor goes on!
